What Are The Types Of Food You Need To Eat After An Extraction?

Have you recently undergone a tooth extraction, or are you on the verge of one? Surgically removing a tooth is a courageous move that can benefit your dental health in the long run – well done! You may suffer tenderness or discomfort following the treatment, making chewing and eating challenging. Certain meals can help you recuperate more quickly, while others can irritate the area. Following is a list of items you can eat following your tooth extraction. Soft types of food and liquids are ideal because they need a little effort for biting and chewing. It’s also important to consider the temperature of the food you eat after tooth extraction. Extremely hot or cold foods can irritate the area, although cool or room temperature options are preferable.

  • Cool soups- Soup is delicious, containing beneficial nutrients and proteins. As part of your aftercare regimen, you can have a lukewarm or chilly cup of soup; you can add a few easy-to-chew components, like small pieces of veggies and pasta.
  • Smoothies – After your tooth extraction, a smoothie is a delicious way to consume a healthy treat. Blend your favourite fruits with some yogurt or kefir to add protein, calcium, and probiotics to your drink. Add yogurt or other dairy products to lower acidity, less likely to irritate sensitive gums. Avoid using a straw when sipping a smoothie or liquid since the sucking movement might violently remove the blood clot protecting the empty tooth socket.
  • Scrambled eggs – Aside from being easy to eat, fluffy scrambled eggs are strong in protein. Remember to cool the eggs first, as heated food might be uncomfortable.
  • Mashed or Pureed Foods – After removing a tooth, you can still acquire all of your body’s nutrients by eating soft food. Potatoes, squash, green beans, carrots, bananas, and avocados, for example, can be mashed or pureed.

What Not to Eat After Tooth Extraction

  • Foods that are hot and acidic – You should avoid hot and acidic foods after tooth extraction. A sensitive tongue and gums can be irritated by hot sauces, soft drinks, and lemon.
  • Snacks with a Crunch – Biting and chewing solid foods will be challenging for a few days. Avoid popcorn, chips, nuts, and other difficult-to-eat snacks.

Following tooth extraction, it is critical to take additional care of your fragile gums and mouth. While you heal, you can ease the discomfort by eating soft meals and drinking plenty of water. The good news is that following the treatment, you can still eat tasty and nutritious foods like soup bowls, healthy smoothies, and mashed or pureed fruits and vegetables. Get creative with these soft food ideas and add your personal touch!
